PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems

The search for “Sustainable Energy Systems” is to be made under a complex framework characterized by multiple time and spatial scales, that go from the global international level to the sub-national supply and demand levels, and that action should be fostered by different policy instruments based in solid knowledge in multiple fields, including economic, social, environmental, technological, and policy. Creating and disseminating this knowledge through an advanced education program requires a high level of dedicated effort, which is the focus of this new and innovative Doctoral Program, jointly developed by MIT and Portuguese Universities under the framework of the Sustainable Energy Systems focus area of the MIT-Portugal Program.

Objectives

The Sustainable Energy Systems focus area’s prime objective is to engage industry and government in innovative research and educational programs to develop standard approaches, methods, and policies for improving the long-term performance of the nation’s energy sector while addressing climate change and energy security concerns.
